‘Deciding’ and ‘Doing’ are two completely different things. You can decide to eat healthier, start that meditation practice you have been promising yourself for weeks or get your butt outdoors and start exercising… but, if you don’t act on your decisions, nothing changes. You need to take action towards your goals. By facing your fears, taking action before you feel ready and focusing on your desired outcome, you put yourself in the driving seat to achieve any goal that you set.
Ok, Let’s Get Real
I want to shed some light on my story about taking action.
For years I spoke about moving away from the fishing village town where I grew up to living an outdoors country life.
I loved my hometown and all the people in it, but I wanted a change of environment and was desperate for something new.
I’d dream of living in the countryside, close to beautiful beaches, in a house that had big glass windows with stunning views of the ocean.
I spoke a good game (mainly to myself so I didn’t feel judged), but year after year, it just didn’t happen.
Why was this….?
I had all sorts of reasons why I couldn’t take that next step in making the move away.
Being a mum to 3 kids, being self-employed, money, schools, parents, work, other commitments, not having the time… you name it, I had that excuse.
But here’s the thing, I knew this big move was everything that I wanted. I knew how amazing it would be for my children to grow up in the country, embracing that outdoor lifestyle.
I’d dream about it week after week but… I didn’t feel I could do it.
‘You don’t have what it takes to up sticks and go’, ‘You can’t walk away from everyone you love and all that you know’ – these were the thoughts replaying over and over in my mind.
Believing in yourself is everything! But sometimes you lack the belief until you reach the goal.
It can take achieving a goal for you to realise that you can do it. That you can make your dreams come true!
So where do you start if you don’t have the belief..?
You start with the people that do… and I am one of those people!
I am here to help you believe in yourself and take action towards your goals and I know that…

How to take action towards your goals?
Here are my top tips that will help you take action towards your goals.
“YBR Top Tips”
Tip 1 – Perfection Doesn’t Exist
Perfection isn’t real, it’s just an illusion.
What’s perfect to you could be mediocre to someone else.
There is never a perfect time for your goal to play out. The key is to just start, regardless if you feel ready or not.
Time is precious so why waste it.
“Don’t be afraid of growing slowly, be afraid only of standing still” – Chinese Proverb
Perfection doesn’t exist so what are you waiting for?
There is never a better time than the present. Make your plans and start building your dream life today.
Tip 2 – Face Your Fears
David J. Schwartz, the famous American writer once said, “Action cures fear and indecision fuels it”.
I can speak from the heart regarding this tip, I now it’s true…
My Relocation from City Life to Country Living
My move to the countryside happened in a few short months (3 months to be exact) and the underlying reason for it, was because I started taking action towards the goals that I had set myself.
Initially it was just a small step. A few phone calls and a little google-ing but gradually those steps got bigger.
Hint: Don’t be afraid to take that first step. You will be amazed at what facing your fear will do for your confidence and self-belief.
When I started my beauty business a few years back I remember being terrified of creating videos and posting them on social media. It was something head office promoted alongside ‘live videos’ to really get our products and service out there.
Any type of recording myself (alongside hearing my own voice), scared the life out of me.
I remember at this particular seminar, the presenter was talking about marketing and how best to connect with your customers. One of the speakers came out with the line “ Whatever you are resisting the most, is where you will see the most growth”.
It was a lightbulb moment for me. I knew I had to start creating videos for my content (especially live videos). This was where I was resisting and making up excuses why I couldn’t do it.
I knew if I could overcome it and start making these videos, I would feel proud of myself and that would lead on to bigger, better things.
So… I just did…
I counted backwards … 5,4,3,2,1 and hit the ‘go live’ button. (A big thanks to Mel Robbins and her 5 Second Rule book for helping me to understand this concept).
The ‘live video’ was terrible and I felt sick before, during and after the stream but… it was a start and nowhere near as bad as I had thought.
When you face your fears, your fears stop scaring you.
Those small steps become easier and before you know it you are on your way to achieving your goals!
I love the saying ‘you grow through what you go through’. It’s oh so true. You have to face your fear and ‘just do it’.
Do whatever it is you are resisting because this is how you are going to get better.
Tip 3 – Don’t Overthink It
Overthinking leads to under-doing.
The more you think about it, the more reasons you will come up with as to why you can’t make it happen.
Nip this one in the bud straight away. Try your best to distract yourself when you start overthinking the why’s, how’s and what if’s.
Working on your thoughts and ditching the ones that make you feel anxious is a great first step. We underestimate the power of our thinking and this step (being mindful) is probably one of the hardest you will face.
That doesn’t mean that you can’t move closer towards your goals.
Just notice when your thinking goes haywire and try and slow it down.
Meditation is a great practice for slowing down the mind – check out this great site that teaches everything meditation.
When your thinking goes crazy, remember it’s just your brain working to protect you. It wants to keep you away from those goals because it’s scared of them.
As long as you keep this in mind and don’t spend too long in those negative thoughts, they will soon pass through and in time, without the attention, they will disappear.
Tip 4 – Visualise The Feeling of Accomplishment
Nothing will pull you closer to your goal than if you imagine how you will feel once your goal becomes reality.
Focus on how you will feel, what you will do, how you will celebrate, and how achieving your goal will impact those you love.
Creating a mental image of your desired outcome teaches your brain to pull on the resources it needs to make the goal happen.
Numerous studies have been done on visualisation and goal setting.
Did you know that if you write your goals down and visualise the outcome on a daily basis, you are 80% more likely to achieve your goal!
That’s worth getting a little creative for, don’t you think?
Tip 5 – Start Believing
It’s time to start believing in yourself!
Put what you feel should you do and who you feel you should be aside for the minute.
Society tells you that you need to be a certain person and act in a certain way, but really… this is total crap!
The more you try and fit into someone else’s ideal, the less you are able to embrace your truest self and love the person that you are.
It’s near on impossible to believe in yourself, when you are trying to be something that you are not.
So what do ya need to do… stay true to you!
Know the stuff that lights you up and makes you feel good.
If you are being the truest you there is, and creating your goals based on your values, your belief and goals will skyrocket.
I know that you were born to shine and have something amazing to offer.
Start believing in your dreams, set your goals and most importantly, take action.
